What Employers Want From Driver and Logistics Staff, Country by Country

If you're applying for a driver or logistics role in Europe, the skills employers list in the job ad change a lot depending on the country. NewLuxJob's driver logistics postings, broken down by country, show which skills come up most often in the "skills" section of each listing.

Warehouse and logistics skills dominate in the north

In Germany, based on 1,090 driver logistics postings, Logistics appears in 70% of ads, Warehouse in 48%, Order Picking in 45%, Forklift in 28%, Driving Licence in 27% and SAP in 11%.

Sweden's 1,001 postings lean even more heavily on the same two skills: Logistics shows up in 76% of ads and Warehouse in 75%, with Order Picking at 5%, SAP at 4%, Delivery at 2% and Driving Licence at just 1%.

Norway's 86 postings follow a similar pattern: Logistics in 77%, Warehouse in 60%, SAP in 13%, Driving Licence in 6%, Forklift in 3% and Delivery in 2%. The Netherlands, from 938 postings, puts Warehouse first at 51%, followed closely by Driving Licence at 49%, then Logistics at 19%, ADR/Dangerous Goods at 4%, Delivery at 3% and Forklift at 3%.

Where a driving licence or Class C/CE matters most

Some countries ask for a heavy vehicle licence far more often than others. In Spain, from 143 postings, Class C/CE appears in 54% of ads, ahead of Logistics at 33%, Delivery at 14%, SAP at 13%, ADR/Dangerous Goods at 10% and Warehouse at 6%.

Czechia's 319 postings show a similar weighting toward Class C/CE at 53%, with Logistics at 23%, Tachograph at 19%, Order Picking at 9%, ADR/Dangerous Goods at 5% and Warehouse at 3%.

Poland's 1,033 postings put Warehouse first at 52%, then Driving Licence at 41%, Delivery at 27%, Order Picking at 25%, Class C/CE at 20% and Logistics at 16%. Ireland, from 156 postings, lists Delivery at 49%, Driving Licence at 46%, Logistics at 33%, Tachograph at 20%, Warehouse at 19% and Forklift at 7%.

Delivery and logistics skills in France, Luxembourg and Italy

France's 1,008 postings put Logistics at 60%, Forklift at 50%, Delivery at 36%, Warehouse at 20%, Order Picking at 14% and Class C/CE at 5%.

In Luxembourg, from 43 postings, Logistics appears in 65% of ads, Delivery in 42%, Warehouse in 40%, Driving Licence in 26%, Forklift in 23% and Class C/CE in 9%.

Italy's 76 postings show the highest single figure in this data: Logistics at 89%, followed by Warehouse at 29%, SAP at 25%, Delivery at 21%, Driving Licence at 3% and Route Planning at 3%.

Austria, from 78 postings, lists Logistics at 63%, Order Picking at 27%, Delivery at 24%, Warehouse at 19%, Driving Licence at 18% and SAP at 17%.

SAP shows up more than you'd expect

SAP isn't a skill most people associate with driving jobs, but it appears across several countries' listings: 11% in Germany, 4% in Sweden, 13% in Norway, 17% in Austria, 13% in Spain and 25% in Italy. If you have any warehouse management system experience, it's worth listing it even for a driving role.

How to use this if you're applying

The mix of skills asked for in each country's ads is different enough that a CV built for one market may not fit another. If you're targeting Spain or Czechia, a Class C/CE licence and, where relevant, ADR/Dangerous Goods certification are worth highlighting near the top. If you're targeting Germany, Sweden or Norway, warehouse and general logistics experience carries more weight than the licence itself. In Ireland and France, delivery experience alongside a forklift or driving qualification covers more of what employers are asking for.

These figures come from NewLuxJob's own driver logistics listings, country by country, and each country's page shows its own breakdown in full.
