A Day in the Life: What is a Medical Assistant? A Medical Assistant is an allied health professional who supports Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers in a clinic setting. The role includes both clinical and administrative duties and frequent interaction with patients and their families. Administrative Duties may include: Answering phones Greeting patients Documenting and updating medical records Coding and filling out insurance forms Scheduling appointments Arranging for hospital admissions, referrals and laboratory services Using computer applications Clinical Duties may include: Taking medical histories Explaining treatment and procedures to patients Timely follow through and completion of referral requests Preparing patients for examination Assisting the physician during exams…
