About this job

We are looking to explore the evolution of the carbon cycle over geologic time using Raman Spectroscopy as the primary tool. Work will entail detailed Raman analysis of carbon particles in ancient sedimentary rocks as well as the analysis of modern marine and river sediments. Raman spectroscopy allows us to determine the quantities and thermal maturities of recycled “petrographic” carbon in modern sediments and ancient sedimentary rocks. The successful applicant will have a solid geological background, preferably in Precambrian geology and track record of using Raman spectroscopy to analyze ancient carbon in rocks. A background in stratigraphy would also be beneficial. We have in house a Horiba LabRAM Soleil Raman Spectrometer.
