Waiter and Hospitality Pay and Skills Across Europe: What the Job Ads Show

Waiter and hospitality pay in Europe, by country
Job ads for the Waiter Hospitality role on NewLuxJob show different salary levels depending on the country. In France, the median salary is 22,548 EUR, with the middle half of postings ranging from 20,681 to 26,020 EUR, based on 1,007 job postings. In the Netherlands, the median is higher, at 27,199 EUR, with the middle half of postings between 25,922 and 31,393 EUR, from 103 job postings. In Czechia, the median is 12,414 EUR, with the middle half ranging from 11,123 to 14,897 EUR, based on 1,386 job postings.
These figures cover three countries only: France, the Netherlands and Czechia. They are not a ranking of pay across Europe as a whole, just what current job ads for this role show in these three markets.
What the salary ranges tell job seekers
The "middle half" range matters as much as the median. In France, most postings fall between 20,681 and 26,020 EUR, so a job offer toward the lower end of that band is not unusual, and one above 26,020 EUR is on the high side for the postings NewLuxJob tracked. In the Netherlands, the spread runs from 25,922 to 31,393 EUR, a narrower band than France's in absolute terms. In Czechia, the band sits between 11,123 and 14,897 EUR, reflecting the 1,386 postings used to calculate it.
Skills most requested in waiter job ads
Beyond pay, NewLuxJob's job ads also show which skills employers list most often, and this varies by country. In Germany, out of 247 postings, Hospitality appears in 75% of ads and Service in 72%, followed by HACCP at 13%, Guest Relations at 9%, and POS/Till and Cocktails each at 6%. In France, out of 1,121 postings, Service dominates at 96%, with POS/Till the next most common at 39%, then Hospitality at 16%, Cocktails at 15%, and Guest Relations and HACCP each at 8%.
In Poland, out of 644 postings, Service leads at 89%, with Barista at 10%, POS/Till at 6%, Hospitality and A la Carte both at 3%, and HACCP at 2%. In Belgium, out of 498 postings, Hospitality is the top skill at 82%, Service follows at 54%, then Cocktails at 7%, and POS/Till, HACCP and Barista each at 3%.
How skill demands differ by country
The pattern continues in the Netherlands and Sweden. In the Netherlands, out of 283 postings, Hospitality is listed in 92% of ads, well ahead of Service at 27%, Barista at 10%, HACCP at 7%, Cocktails at 4%, and A la Carte at 1%. In Sweden, out of 605 postings, Service tops the list at 92%, with Barista at 18%, Cocktails and Wine each at 10%, A la Carte at 9%, and Hospitality at 8%.
Taken together, these six countries show two different patterns in how employers frame the role. In France, Poland and Sweden, "Service" is the most-listed skill. In Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, "Hospitality" takes the top spot instead. POS/Till skills show up most in France, at 39%, far above any other country in this data.
What this means if you're job hunting
If you're applying for waiter or hospitality roles in Europe, the job ads suggest it's worth checking which skill terms employers in your target country favor. A candidate applying in France may want to highlight Service and POS/Till experience given their 96% and 39% listing rates, while someone applying in the Netherlands or Belgium may want to foreground Hospitality experience, listed in 92% and 82% of ads respectively. On pay, the France, Netherlands and Czechia figures above give a starting point for what current job ads are offering, based on the postings counted in each country.
