What Swedish Employers Actually Ask For: Skill by Skill, From Real Job Ads

Job ads often list a wall of "nice to have" skills that make it hard to know what actually matters. Looking at the skills tags on live Swedish job postings by role gives a clearer picture of what employers repeat most often. Here is what stands out across several roles tracked on NewLuxJob's Sweden listings.

Office and finance roles

Among Accountant/Auditor postings (459 in total), Excel appears in 66% of listings, well ahead of Reporting at 30%, SAP at 21%, Auditing at 18%, IFRS at 13% and Tax at 9%. In Finance postings (186 in total), Budgeting leads at 55%, followed by Excel at 49%, Forecasting at 40%, Controlling at 38%, SAP at 26% and IFRS at 22%. For Consultant roles (79 in total), Stakeholder Management is the top skill at 53%, ahead of Strategy at 42%, Agile at 22%, Project Management at 14%, SAP at 14% and Excel at 9%. Legal postings (153 in total) are dominated by GDPR, which appears in 66% of ads, then Compliance at 37%, Regulatory at 18%, Contract Law at 16%, Negotiation at 14% and Drafting at 10%.

Tech and data roles

Data Analyst postings (397 in total) put SQL at the top with 64%, followed closely by Python at 59%, Power BI at 34%, ETL at 21%, dbt at 20% and Statistics at 20%. Software Developer listings (691 in total) show a more even spread: Python at 37%, CI/CD at 35%, AWS at 30%, Agile/Scrum at 27%, Azure at 27% and Java at 25%. For Engineer roles (384 in total), Project Management tops the list at 33%, ahead of Lean at 20%, CAD at 18%, FEM/FEA at 13%, MATLAB at 12% and CATIA at 12%.

Sales, marketing and customer-facing roles

Sales postings (343 in total) list B2B as the leading skill at 55%, followed by CRM at 42%, Pipeline at 29%, Negotiation at 23%, Account Management at 21% and Salesforce at 15%. Marketing roles (120 in total) show Content at 58%, SEO at 33%, CRM at 29%, SEA/Google Ads at 24%, Google Analytics at 17% and Social Media at 17%. Customer Support postings (426 in total) are led by Communication at 76%, then English at 35%, CRM at 17%, Troubleshooting at 10%, Salesforce at 7% and German at 4%.

Frontline and operational roles

Driver/Logistics postings (998 in total, the largest category) show Warehouse and Logistics tied at 75% each, with SAP at 5%, Order Picking at 4%, Delivery at 2% and ADR/Dangerous Goods at 2%. Cleaning roles (235 in total) list Cleaning itself at 100%, Window Cleaning at 63%, Floor Care at 3%, Waste Management at 3% and Hygiene at 1%. In Security postings (177 in total), Reporting leads by a wide margin at 92%, ahead of CCTV at 6%, Access Control at 5% and Surveillance at 1%. Waiter/Hospitality listings (128 in total) show Service at 92% and Barista at 78%, with Hospitality at 5%, A la Carte at 3%, Wine at 2% and Cocktails at 1%.

What this means for job seekers

Manager postings (711 in total) reinforce a pattern seen across office roles: Stakeholder Management leads at 43%, followed by Budgeting at 39%, Strategy at 37%, Leadership at 35%, Project Management at 28% and KPI at 11%. Teacher listings (166 in total) are led heavily by Pedagogy at 88%, with Languages at 28% a distant second. The pattern across these roles is that one or two skills tend to dominate a category, while the rest of the list is made up of secondary skills that appear far less often. Matching a CV to the top two or three skills for a target role, rather than trying to cover every possible keyword, lines up with what actually shows up most in the postings.
